Guide to the Valencia Region of Spain

This brief guide is centred on the small and typically Spanish town of Alberic, which provides easy access to the many places of interest in the Valencia Region.

The small and typically Spanish town of Alberic is ideally placed for easy access to the City of Valencia, and also the beautiful sandy blue flag beaches of the Costa del Azahar and numerous places of interest. The Valencia Region is also a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts. With many golf courses nearby, beautiful countryside for walking in, over 20 natural parks, quiet roads for cyclists, lovely areas for mountain biking and horse riding, and within easy reach of the sea for lovers of sailing and water sports, the advantages of this area are many.

The City of Valencia	40 km from Alberic is Valencia, which offers an unparalleled wealth of interests with its outstanding City of Arts and Sciences, its America's Cup marinas, a brand new Monaco-style grand prix racing circuit, restaurants, nightlife and a myriad of historic, cultural and shopping centres.
Xativa	Nearer at hand is Xativa, a town steeped in history, with its magnificent castle perched high on the hill and surrounded by herb gardens that perfume the air. Fountains, shaded avenues and fascinating shops make this town a wonderful place to visit.
Alberic	Alberic itself has a large sports hall, a cinema and a multitude of bars and restaurants, plus a new indoor swimming pool. The town is near the motorway, giving easy access to Valencia and other parts of Spain. There is a frequent train service to Valencia from Alberic, and the nearby town of Alzira offers an even faster service to Valencia, Xativa, and other places of interest. .
San Cristobal	Places to stay in the Alberic area include the community of San Cristobal with its picturesque orange-grove setting and its proximity to the beautiful lake formed by the dam on the Riu Xuquer with its backdrop of mountains. The nearby village of Antella is popular with locals for river swimming and fishing.
Cullera and the Albufera Nature Reserve	Cullera is the nearest beach and has a wonderful water park with attractions to suit all the family, as well as sandy beaches and restaurants. From Cullera toward Valencia is a large fresh water lagoon, the 'Albufera Nature Reserve', where over 250 species of birds have been recorded. As well as being the second largest nature reserve in Spain, l'Albufera is renowned for its local restaurants, each trying to outdo each other with the magnificence of its Paella Valenciana.
Dining in or out	Each area has its own gastronomic speciality such as nougat (turrón) from Xixona, paella from Valencia, and a sweet spongy bread called Panquemados Monas from Alberic. There are a multitude weekly markets and fiestas throughout the year.
